How to cope with moving anxiety

Moving can be a challenging time, but moving out of your family home to somewhere potentially on the other side of the country to some student accommodation that you might have only briefly looked around once (breathe) can make moving out for uni even more anxiety-provoking. Here are a few tips to try to reduce those pre-moving nerves:

1. Try to explore the local area

I love a good café, so I always try to do a bit of research beforehand on TripAdvisor for the best coffee places and hidden gems.

2. Get to know the best methods of transport

How will you travel home and back if you need to? How will you get to uni? How often do the buses run? It’s the small things like that that can really make a difference in how confident you feel living in a new place!

3. Try to turn your anxiety into excitement

Think about how you can decorate your room and all the things you could do with it that you can’t really do with your current bedroom! Pick out and print some photos of your friends and family to hang up around your room to remind you of how much you are loved!

4. Talk to people about it

No doubt, all of your friends in the same position will be thinking the same thoughts, and it’s good to know you’re not alone! Perhaps you can organise weekly Skype catch-ups to keep up the connections so that you can be there to support each other!
