Communication and Marketing Experience

January 2016 Student Ambassador and Subject Specialist

As a student ambassador and subject specialist for the faculty of Communication and Media, part of my role is to communicate with prospective students about university life and the various options available. From working in this position, I have met and develop skills in communicating effectively with a wide range of people, as well as prioritize and complete tasks within time restraints.

Published Articles

I write regular features and reviews for the University magazine. Since joining, I have been promoted to the online features sub-editor, giving me the opportunity to become familiar with different writing styles as my main roles include sourcing writers and brainstorming for new article ideas. My enthusiasm and commitment to the magazine has helped me achieve the award as the ‘Best Features Writer’ for 2016.

I write various blogs for the Bournemouth University website, aimed to give prospective students an insight into life at the university. This also has included recording video blogs.

As a keen musician, I have also been involved with the music blog Hiddenherd.com, where I have written features promoting new and upcoming artists that I find through searching on social media or through meeting and researching artists at live music venues.  Please find attached my portfolio.

Copywriting

I have worked for a local oak furniture sales company, Finoak with helping complete their website. My tasks included writing various product descriptions and designing their ‘About Us’ page.

PlacementLondon-Live-Logo

Experience at the London Live News Channel Studio and Offices in London, shadowing the video and production journalists and gaining a greater insight into the fast-paced atmosphere and working environment in the industry.

Social Media Executive at the Global Festival of Learning 2017 at the BINUS University, Jakarta, Indonesia and Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang.

Other Experience

August 2016 SEN Support Worker Part Time Employment

This role gives me responsibility for the wellbeing and support of the service users. I have had to learn to balance the act of support, with also encouraging them to be as independent as possible. I have found that there are varied difficulties in communicating with the users so I have had to learn different methods of communicating with the individuals such as Makaton and sign languagein order to make sure important and relevant information is received and understood.

Easter 2015 Café Assistant, Little Pickle Deli Café

This part-time job involved working in a range of different areas from greeting customers, taking orders, preparing food, washing up and cleaning. Working here has given me an increased understanding into how important customer feedback and communication is in running a business. It has also shown me the extent as to the preparation and planning that is required to successfully run and promote the company.

Summer 2014 Sales Team Member, Clarks Shoes

After taking part in a specialist course at the beginning of the season, I was able to become a trained shoe fitter and my job involved talking with the customers, measuring their feet and ensuring they left the store with the right shoes. Working during the ‘Back to School’ season, much of my job involved forming a rapport with whole families and children of varied ages. The store could become very busy and crowded and I developed my skills in working in a stressful environment.

2012-2013 Supermarket attendant, Waitrose

Specializing in customer services, I spent the majority of time behind the checkout, communicating with the customers and ensuring they had a good shopping experience. During busy periods, I was able to work overtime and through the quieter periods worked elsewhere in the store. I was able to move around, completing a variety of different jobs, allowing me to gain skills in working in different sections of a supermarket
