Working at the university for a placement year emerged in my studies, this role complements many key aspects of my course and gives me great experience of working in the industry. Typical tasks vary from office work such as liaising with schools, designing workshops and supporting the ‘future students’ helpdesk, to duties such as running campus visits and delivering workshops. I have improved my skills greatly in time management, organization and communicating with different audiences.
January 2016 Student Ambassador and Subject Specialist
As a student ambassador and subject specialist for the faculty of Communication and Media, part of my role is to communicate with prospective students about university life and the various options available. From working in this position, I have met and develop skills in communicating effectively with a wide range of people, as well as prioritize and complete tasks within time restraints.
I write regular features and reviews for the University magazine. Since joining, I have been promoted to the online features sub-editor, giving me the opportunity to become familiar with different writing styles as my main roles include sourcing writers and brainstorming for new article ideas. My enthusiasm and commitment to the magazine has helped me achieve the award as the ‘Best Features Writer’ for 2016.
I write various blogs for the Bournemouth University website, aimed to give prospective students an insight into life at the university. This also has included recording video blogs.
As a keen musician, I have also been involved with the music blog Hiddenherd.com, where I have written features promoting new and upcoming artists that I find through searching on social media or through meeting and researching artists at live music venues. Please find attached my portfolio.

Easter 2015 Café Assistant, Little Pickle Deli Café
This part-time job involved working in a range of different areas from greeting customers, taking orders, preparing food, washing up and cleaning. Working here has given me an increased understanding into how important customer feedback and communication is in running a business. It has also shown me the extent as to the preparation and planning that is required to successfully run and promote the company.
Summer 2014 Sales Team Member, Clarks Shoes
After taking part in a specialist course at the beginning of the season, I was able to become a trained shoe fitter and my job involved talking with the customers, measuring their feet and ensuring they left the store with the right shoes. Working during the ‘Back to School’ season, much of my job involved forming a rapport with whole families and children of varied ages. The store could become very busy and crowded and I developed my skills in working in a stressful environment.
2012-2013 Supermarket attendant, Waitrose
Specializing in customer services, I spent the majority of time behind the checkout, communicating with the customers and ensuring they had a good shopping experience. During busy periods, I was able to work overtime and through the quieter periods worked elsewhere in the store.
